Sarawak Convention Bureau was official launched by the honorable Tourism Minister Dato¡¦ Sri Wong Soon Koh on the 11 Dec, 06. A mile stone in Sarawak history, SCB is the first bureau in Malaysia and the first GLC to utilize the State Legislative Council Building. With the theme ¡§Drumming Up Business for Sarawak¡¨. The launched was attended by members of the State Legislative Assembly, other invited dignitaries and guest from both the government and private sector. Done in a very unusual manner all invitees were given a drum and stick to drum along with the special nine drum performers highlighting the nine important sectors of Sarawak Economic contributors. The morning was colorful with performers dressed in colors of Malaysia representing the different ethnic groups. Other highlight included the performances by the African students from Inti College and the Children of Lodge School symbolizing ¡¥Sarawak Welcomes the World¡¦. Many commented that the event was a memorable experience and different from many others that they have attended.
 
Pre Chinese New Year Open HousePre Chinese New Year Open House
An open house was held at the Sarawak Convention Bureau premises to celebrate the completion of the office renovation. Invited guest were industry players, corporate, PCO, event Management companies government bodies and the media. The guests were given opportunities to win prizes by answering trivial questions relating to SCB role and were entertained by a Lion dance troop. The staff puts up on best Chinese dress in show of their support to the multi culturalism of Sarawak.
 
BIDS PERFORMANCE
Though still a young organization, SCB have so far won 11 conference bids with 10 under development. The Sales Team has been working hard to bring more M.I.C.E. events to Sarawak. In February SCB attended AIME Melbourne an attracted lots of interest and enquiries about organizing conventions in Sarawak. SCB will also participate in IMEX in Frankfurt this month. The Bureau hopes to be able to achieve its target of 50 leads this year with 10 materialized bids.
 
CONVENTION CENTRE
The state government is building the RM300 Million Sarawak Convention Exhibition Centre as a centre for international meetings. The Chairman of the Sarawak Convention Bureau, Dato Sri Dr. Leo Michael Toyad speaking at a diiner during the road show to Sibu called on local business leaders to work with the Sarawak Convention Bureau to make this new opportunity in tourism a success. He said the bureau will help convention hosts who are usually busy professional by managing competitive bid process on their behalf and helping them to promote and market their conventions.
